Hunting Ground - Patricia Briggs
An Alpha & Omega novel, meaning it is set in the same story-verse as her Mercy Thompson series. These are the extended family backfill. The featured protagonists here were supporting backstory in her other novels, and both the characterization and pacing are slighter than expected. this is another one where the ending seems rushed, either by word limit constraints, time or both. Still an enjoyable light read with dark characters.

I was so excited to buy this a few weeks ago, but haven't been able to get past the first few chapters. I'm sure I'll get back to it, but I guess I just don't go in for fluttery feeling romance novels anymore.

I don't think it's too much of a spoiler to say that while the series started as a paranormal romance, by a little ways in it went into gritty urban fantasy territory. I didn't pay close attention to the first few chapters either, enough to remember when exactly things started getting hairy. in short, it's not very "romancy", you need to be in the mood for werewolves.
