a marker of spring
Mar. 21st, 2007 03:52 pmOur barn rests at the eastern base of a small wooded holler. The tree we didn't take out are mostly oak, hickory and dogwood.
During the period of the vernal equinox, the sun is lined up to rise right down the middle, where the biggest part of the dogwood thicket lies. This forms our own little floral solar calendar, as the dogwood just starts to bloom, and only during that period of time is it lit through as a focal point of the rising sun.
